Fred Paiz departed from our world on February 24th, 2023, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Fred was born in Dawson, New Mexico, on December 29th, 1944, and lived a complete life of adventures, love, and happiness.

A generous and passionate man, "Uncle Fred's" big heart and warm cheerfulness reflected his love for life, great food, fine scotch, plenty of prosecco, and his beloved Denver Broncos football team. Fred adored his family. He had an exceptional relationship with his younger sister Dorie and looked after her like a father figure. Although he had no kids of his own, he took a special interest in Dorie's daughters Stef and Sana.

Fred was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. He enjoyed warm weather and listening to Frank Senatra and Garth Brooks. He loved cutting the rug to the two-step, but he took extra pleasure in dancing to the waltz, his favorite. The famous Mexican ballad "El Corrido del Cavallo Blanco" was the song he favored most. Always a fancy dresser, his signature fashion style could best be described as "forever in shorts" - he even wore shorts with his tuxedo on his wedding day!

Fred lived an adventurous life and was an avid traveler. He was lucky enough to have visited the Amazon Rainforest as well as Machu Picchu while in Peru. He bravely ran with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain and had the privilege of riding camels and Pyramid gazing while touring Egypt. He spent time in Rome as well as Greece and endured many escapades on multiple cruises. But he always made his way back home to Brighton, Colorado, where he grew up and most of his family still resides.

At the age of 55 Fred married for the first time, to his beloved wife Betty Lou. They traveled and enjoyed fun times together until 2009, when Betty passed.

In 2012, Fred developed a remarkable relationship with Tony More, who he referred to as his “best friend.” They admired each other's company and traveled to many places together until Tony passed away in 2017. Family and friends who knew Fred agreed that this was the happiest time in his life. His final years were spent in Pompano Beach, FL, with a strong community of friends and of course, his sister Dorie. Fred never lost his faith in God and attended mass weekly.

Fred is survived by his Brother Tony (Carol) Paiz, his sister Dorie Trent, and numerous godchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benito Paiz and Margaret Romero Paiz, brothers Jimmy, Charlie, and Benjamin Paiz, sisters Henrietta and Mary Paiz, Ellen Olguin, Sarah Gonzalez, his wife Betty Lou and his best friend, Tony More.

“On September 24,1962 the U.S.A.F. acquired another person for five years. One and a half years was spent in the upper Peninsula of Michigan-brr- and three and a half years in Spain - yea!!

January 1968 began a 16 year, on again off again pursuit and final achievement of a Degree is Sociology. In between semesters at the University of Colorado at Denver, I held several jobs mainly in the social services area, such as at the Juvenile Detention Center in Brighton, Colorado, the Regional Center for the Mentally Retarded in Orange County, California, and the Adams County Employment and Training. Finally, in 1978 the idea of working with a machine that had no personal problems appealed to me much more than my inclination to save the disadvantaged of the world.

I became employed by Union Pacific Railroad as a clerk, progressing on to a Computer Field Analyst and Implementer, to my current position as Train Dispatcher. My railroad employment has allowed me to see the complete Union Pacific railroad system and required residency in Omaha, Nebraska, St. Louis, Mo.Sacramento, CA, and back to Omaha, Nebraska from where I hope to retire in 15 years or less, unless course automation brings about my separation much sooner.

I’ve never married, preferring to live the single life, which has allowed me to travel to several foreign countries in Europe, Africa, and South America. If I can retire soon enough, I hope to see the other three continents.”
