Born on December 2, 1933, Tony grew up in Toledo, Ohio and graduated from Central Catholic High School where he was a standout on the Irish football team. He worked in the family business (Mazzurco Importing Company) from a young age until 1967 when he moved his large family to Fort Lauderdale after being hired as Executive Vice President of Gibraltar Growth Fund. After spending several years with Gibraltar Tony went out on his own and started Mazzurco Realty which he ran along with his sons Tony and Mark.
An avid tennis player in his younger days, Tony could often be found on the courts at Coral Ridge Country Club. He had a vast network of friends, tennis buddies, business associates, and classmates who he remained in contact with long after his retirement.
Tony also loved to travel. Both he and Grace loved vacationing in Italy and did so over twenty times. Because he spoke Italian and knew the country so well he acted as unofficial tour guide when they traveled with Tony’s sister, Mary Rose, and friends Bob and Maggie Dame.
Tony loved nothing more than being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Family get-togethers took place regularly and Tony could always be found in the kitchen preparing mouth watering Italian dishes that everyone loved. When he sat down to the dinner table the fun really started - his sense of humor was legendary. Everyone that dined with the Mazzurco family left the house well fed and laughing. Tony made all that visited his home feel like a member of the family.
A devout Catholic, Tony was a cherished parishioner of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also proud of his Italian heritage and for years belonged to the Order Sons of Italy.
Tony is survived by his wife of 71 years, Grace (Carone) Mazzurco whom he loved faithfully and fully every day, and their six children, Mark Mazzurco (Gloria), Christine Jordan (Jim), Mike Mazzurco, John Mazzurco, Nick Mazzurco, and Anne Mazzurco. He was a proud grandfather to Mark Mazzurco, Jr., Peter Mazzurco, Jimmy Jordan, Tina Jordan, Michelle Mazzurco, Christina Mazzurco, Angela Mazzurco, Travis Gearing, and Natalie Mazzurco. He was a proud great grandfather to Lily Bruening, Dominic Bruening, Harper MacLean and Finn MacLean. Tony is also survived by his sister, Mary Rose (Mazzurco) Scott. Tony was preceded in death by his father, Carl Mazzurco, Sr., his mother, Loretta (Jiannuzzi) Mazzurco, his brother, Carl Mazzurco, Jr., his son, Anthony Mazzurco, Jr., and granddaughter, Jamie Portell.
A devout and a loving family man with a one-in-a-million personality, Tony will be missed by so very many.
Anthony's funeral service will commence on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 10:00 at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, 1701 E Oakland Park Blvd, Oakland Park, FL 33334, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated.
