Nancy was born April 11, 1946 in Hamilton, Ontario. She is survived by her loving husband Peter; children Suzanne (Hugh) of Swan River, Manitoba, Suzette (Tim) of Edson, Alberta, and Trish (Matt) of Atikokan, Ontario; grandchildren, Andrea (Jeremy), Stephanie (James), Samantha (Riley), Brandon, Stacey, Dylan, Nadyne and Ally; great-grandchildren Briar and Maverick; stepchildren Linda, Steve, Dora, Betty, Sherry, Heidi, Barb and Milton as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents James and Dolly Russell; brother Jimmy; stepchildren Geneva and Albert.
Nancy met Peter in Atikokan, Ontario where they were united in marriage and began their family. During their time in Atikokan they raised their three girls Suzanne, Suzette and Trish. Nancy was the type of mom to never miss an event, she could always be counted on to be there. All the girl’s friends called her “Mom”. She spent her days taking care of her girls and visiting Peter in the bush where her and the girls were known as Nanny and the three kids. Her time spent in Atikokan was a good one. She had friends and family she loved dearly.
In July 1990 Peter and Nancy decided it was time to try something new, so they moved to Swan River, Manitoba. It was in Swan River that Nancy became grandma. Her grandchildren were her world. She cherished every moment she got to spend with them. While in Swan River she spent her time with her grandchildren, children and other family members. If she wasn’t home everyone knew they’d be at the Timberland having coffee or visiting with the Vinet’s. When she was home, she spent her time crafting with the grandkids, creating Barbie furniture for the girls or knitting blankets or playing games with them. It was never a dull moment for her. She was never one to just sit around she always had something on the go.
Peter and Nancy remained in Swan River until July 2018 when they decided it was time to go home to Atikokan. Once back in Atikokan she enjoyed spending her time crafting, doing puzzles, reading, playing cards, taking trips to the Pioneer Centre and her daily trips with her pup Turbo to the store. Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved and cherished her many family members and friends.
She is deeply missed and will always be cherished in our hearts and memories as a gentle, precious, giving and understanding woman and mother.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
If desired, donations can be made in her memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 2300 Yong Street, #1300, Toronto, ON, M4P 1E4.
