Lillian Armstrong

Mom was born on Aug. 12, 1930 in Fort Frances. She married the love of her life Gerard (Gerry) Armstrong in 1953.

They were blessed with five children, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

These include eldest son, Bruce (Shelly) Armstrong and grandchildren, Josh (Katie) Armstrong (great-grandson Henry) and Jolie (Jon) Scott (great granddaughters Layla and Aubree); daughter, Patty (Rob) Wright and grandchildren Jennifer (Jason) Lewis (great-grandchildren Timmerie (Jessie) Beckwith and their daughter Claire, Simon-Gerard, Alaina and Isaac), Tracey (Eric) Kearney (great-grandchildren Aidan, Robyn, and Meagan), Sarah (Jeff) Morris (great-grandchildren Evan and Grace), and Lisa Wright; daughter, Tracey (John) Strand and grandchildren Brooke-Lillian and Brett (Paige) Shabatura, and their father Kurt; son, Kirk (Tracy) Armstrong and grandchildren Matt (Nikki) Armstrong (great-grandchildren Noah and Rilee) and Natalie Armstrong; and son, Rob (Lisa) Armstrong (granddaughter Alyssa).

Mom was predeceased by Gerard on March 2, 1993; her parents, Gilbert and Robina; and three sisters.

She is survived by two siblings—sister Emily of Burlington, Ont. and brother, William, of Hedal, Norway.

Despite hard times growing up, she had a tremendous zest for life which continued throughout her lifetime. Even as a teetotaller, she was the life of the party at the many get-togethers our parents hosted in the basement of our Frenette Avenue family home.

She was a great Mom and a fantastic grandma; she was always called “Fun Grandma” by her grandchildren. Mom was happiest when everyone else was having fun. Mom and Dad’s best years were spent at their Bears Passage Cabin. They shared wonderful years there with their friends, children and grandchildren. In retirement, Mom and Dad purchased a fifth wheel trailer and headed south to new horizons where they fell in love with the panhandle region of Florida.

Mom spent the last 12 years of her life in Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances, living with Alzheimer’s disease. She was treated there with care and compassion throughout her struggles. We are so grateful to all those wonderful individuals who to took such good care of her.

As we mourn her passing we are at peace knowing that Mom and Dad are finally together again

As per Mom’s wishes, there will be no funeral. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
