It is with great sorrow that the family of Harry Prince Windego announces his sudden passing on Thursday, October 3rd, 2019 in Fort Frances, ON.
Harry was born on November 4, 1947 in Naicatchewenin First Nation to Alfred Prince and Mae Councillor. He lived in Naicatchewenin most of his life before moving to Mitaanjiigaming First Nation. As a young man he loved being surrounded by nature; working in the great outdoors filled his heart with peace. Throughout his life, Harry has had the pleasure of working as a logger, a firefighter, a guide, a guidance counsellor, and as an elder and spiritual advisor. He earned the distinction of becoming a 3rd degree Midewewin. He loved going to Powwows and would never turn down a good game of bingo.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Anna; daughter Valerie Windego (Gilbert Malaluan); grandchildren Autumn (Tyler), Chance, and Thre Windego , Zoe Namaypoke and Great grandchildren Layla and Vega Medicine, and Kyrena Namaypoke. Alongside numerous grand and great grandchildren. Siblings Annie Mcginnis, Dennis Black and Bruce Black ; stepchildren Robert, Jackie (James), Verna (Farrel), Waylon (Debbie), Leona Garnet, Shannon, Darlene, Marilyn, Laura, Vernon. He also leaves behind his adopted brothers, Louis Councillor, Tommy Councillor, Allan Crow and Al Hunter, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Harry is preceded by his parents, Alfred and Mae; son Harry Windego Jr; daughter Tracy Windego; granddaughter Shylo Windego; siblings Elizabeth Shebegegit, Brad Councillor, and Brenda Councillor; stepdaughter Priscilla.
A traditional wake will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2019 from 3 p.m. at the Mitaanjiigaming First Nations Recreational Centre.
A Traditional service will be held on Monday, October 7, 2019 at the Mitaanjiigaming First Nations Recreational Centre, with Billy Blackwell officiating.
The pallbearers are Alex Cochrane, William Morrison, Dominick Morrison, Andrew Morrison, Kaelin Morrison, Ed Natawance and Desmond Jourdain
