Doris Dennis passed away peacefully at Riverside Health Care on Thursday, May 19, 2011. Doris was born December 22, 1922 in New Liskeard, ON. On July 1, 1946 she married the love of her life, Lester V. Dennis. They moved to Fort Frances in 1950 when Les started his practice as an Optometrist.
Doris was a Registered Nurse, graduating from Toronto General Hospital in 1945 and worked for many years at LaVerendrye Hospital in Fort Frances. Doris volunteered and helped others less fortunate than herself including being involved in CNIB, CMHA and was also a Cub Scout Leader. She was a member of the Hospital Auxillary, as well as a lifetime member of Rainy Crest Auxillary.
Doris loved her family and was very proud of all their accomplishments. She attended several of her grandchildren’s sporting events and dance recitals over the years and was their #1 supporter. Friends were very important to Doris and she shared many enjoyable activities with them. She was an avid reader and the library was her second home. Doris loved the game of Bridge, an activity that continued until April of this year.
Doris was predeceased by her husband, Les on June 17, 1984 and her parents, 5 sisters & 1 brother. Doris is survived by her sons, Hugh (Robin) of Fort Frances and Michael (Julie) of Prince George, B.C. as well as her grandchildren & step-grandchildren – Chris (Lindsay), Tyson (Robyn), Mark & Talisa, and Danielle (Scott) Witherspoon & Camden and Skye Lavallie & Lindsay Gustafson. She is also survived by one sister & brother-in-law, Donna (Les) McLean as well as many nieces and nephews.
Doris had a zest for life and she loved to chat. She took an interest in people’s lives and she made all of us want to be better people. She touched many lives and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 11:30 am at Green Funeral Home.
