Richard was born to the late Marie and Raymond King Sr. on January 14, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in the Berwyn-Cicero area and graduated from Morton East High School. He was a long-time resident of Berkeley, IL, and raised his children and grandchildren there.
Richard is survived by two children: Katherine King, of Chicago; and Heather King of Bloomington. He is survived by two grandchildren: Emily King of Oak Lawn; and Zachary King, of Chicago. He is also fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Raymond King, Sr.; his siblings, Raymond King II and Grace Nowak; and his wife, Sandra King.
Anyone who knew Richard knew how important his faith was to him. He spoke about his time as an altar boy when he was young. Richard also enjoyed classic cars with his favorite being the ‘57 Chevy. Richard also loved sharing stories with anyone who would listen. His unique sense of humor and interests in fishing, racing cars, and how to repair things were among some of the things he loved to talk about. He enjoyed watching or attending Chicago Cubs games and also watching Bears games. Richard started his employment as a sheet metal worker and then continued his career as a security guard for various venues for many years. Richard loved eating traditional foods from his heritage and frequently requested Pączki and perogies.
Richard will join his late wife Sandra and her parents Charles & Mildred Smisek in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Richard requested a private service and Rev. Dr. Sally Scheib will preside.
Special thanks to the staff at Bella Terra Elmhurst and Residential Hospice staff that provided Richard and his family with care and support.
