Sergeant Gary Newsom will always be remembered for his Dedication and Public Service to the Citizens of Cook County.

In the words of Pat Donovan, he and Gary Newsom went first through many a narrow entry way in HBT search warrants, and Breaches.  Sgt. Gary Newsom is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  He chose, as a Christian, to find Salvation.  He did so by "Straight is the Gate, and Narrow is the Way which leadeth unto Life, and few there be that find it" (Matthew 7:14).
That contagious smile of Gary's we all so looked forward to and remember so well is because we could hug him and call him "Brother".
Gary was a Man of God, a "Brother".
This is best defined from the Heart as follows:
It means being a hand to hold, a shoulder to lean on, and an ear to listen. Being a brother means building and breaking bridges, celebrating victories and mourning losses together. Being a brother means so many different things to so many people, but it all comes back to passion and compassion.

My heart aches for you Daphne and both your families. Gary was one of a kind...so genuinely kind whether he knew you or not.  The love of the Lord radiated from every ounce of his being. What an amazing role model he was for mankind. You both were the cutest couple, anointed to be each other's spouses. 

He truly will be missed but I take comfort in the fact (as I'm sure you do/will too) knowing that he is in pure eternal bliss with our Savior and  that this separation from us is only temporary.  Gary is and will be missed. Praying daily beauty for ashes and the oil of joy for your mourning.  

I and so many others love you so very much and are here for you.  May the incomprehensible peace of God guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus, dear sister. 

I was totally shocked when I saw the obituary from KRC. Gary and Daphne were and remain my favorite couple from the days of running the 2011 Chicago Marathon and ever since thereafter when we meet at LWCC church services. Oh! death has stolen a wonderful young brother from us. But till we meet again seated in the Lord's Kingdom. Adieu Brother Gary. My condolence Sister Daphne.

I’m so very sorry for the loss of our dear brother, Gary.  Being a new member of Kingdom Running Club, I was very impressed with what a beautiful couple Gary & Daphne were. Both were always so genuine, friendly & helpful. My prayers will be with Daphne & the family not only now but for many many days ahead.

Gary was a high school classmate and he was truly a kind and gentle person who was always positive. I remember having a conversation with him about being a single parent and hoping I could raise my son to be a man. He encouraged me and told me it was possible due to his own experience in being raised by his mom. That conversation was well over 20 years ago and shortly after that I hadn’t seen Gary but the conversation stayed with me.  Thanks Gary,  you will be missed but your footprint will remain. 

I just wanted the family to know i am so sorry for your loss. Vicky  you and your family are in my prayers. 


This still seems so unreal to me. Never would I imagine that we would lose you this soon. Honestly, I’m not ready to say good bye to you. I keep replaying the memories in my head of the last couple of years since I moved back. My favorite memories was a couple months ago when the kids and I were getting ready for bed and we were saying our night prayers and Nahla was praying for you and Auntie Vicky. Then out the blue she said mommy can you please call Uncle Gary. Although it was really late to call; I called anyway. When you answered I told you what Nahla said and you were really shocked. You guys talked for almost two hours. Nahla talked up a storm with you and you kept asking her are you tired yet and she said no she wasn’t done talking to you. In the conversation she promised you she was going to make you some of her apple pie cookies.  So guess what we’re going to do??? We’re going to make you some of Nahla’s famous Apple pie cookies!!! My next favorite memory was last summer when you were crawling on the floor having a race with the kids. I hate to say it but they beat you 😂😂😂. Or remember when yal came over for the bbq and the kids gave you guys a run for your money and yal didn’t leave until almost 2 in the morning. You guys we’re trying to help me put the kids to sleep and yal ended up sleep before the kids 🤦🏽‍♀️😩.On a serious note I would like to say thank you for always being there making sure we were straight. Whether it was you being a phone call away or physically being there. Thank you for being there by my side through the scariest day of my life this far. You didn’t leave us until everything was taken care of and you kept reminding me that everything was going to workout. Last year for my birthday you guys got me a journal and in that journal you guys left me a note telling me to do something. I promise I’ll do it. I love you Uncle Gary and you’ll truly be missed. All I want is one last big hug with you squeezing me tight and one of your wet kisses.

I thank God for Gary, his leadership with the Kingdom Running Club, encouragement, and looking out for the team. He's truly been a blessing! Gary has served our great God well, and I believe he'll hear, "Well done, good and faithful servant." To Daphne and all of Gary's friends, loved ones, and fellow officers, and the KRC family: May you find comfort, grace, peace, and strength wrapped in God's arms of Love. <3

Gary, I will always remember you smiling and asking me, "How are you doing?  You good?" No matter the day,  the weather,  the situation: just caring if I'm good everytime he saw me. 
You will be missed.

Gary will always be remembered as a charished friend and dear brother. His love for his precious Daphne was always refreshing to witness. We traveled together, ran together, laughed together, dined together and most of all enjoyed being brothers of faith. Gary was fearless and I truly will miss his presence. 
His greetings would begin by uttering the words "big brother" and would follow up with  a firm hand shake and pat on the back.
I know we will see our brother again and that smile as always , will remind us just how bless we are to know "Gary Newsome"   He challenged us all to be a better friend.

I only came to know Gary in the 2019 Kingdom Running Club (KRC) season. Gary spoke to us about safety and we bought really cool looking bottles of pepper spray from him. I remember his wife Daphne, telling us about her triumph of the Mercedes Benz run. As she spoke, I could see how proud Gary was of his beautiful wife’s accomplishment and how much he loved her. It was all in his eyes each time he looked at her. When I heard of Gary’s passing, my heart just sank. I just could not believe it. I know Gary walked in the light of God because you could see it all over him. His spirit was kind and he was a true servant of the lord. I send my condolences to his entire family. May God give you strength during this time. May he grant you added strength for the days, months and years after. God bless you. ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

I attended Grammar  school and High  School with Gary. It has been awhile since I saw Gary,. Gary was always friendly and positive. My condolences to his wife and family.

Gary will be missed by all of us. I remember having lunch with him at an Italian restaurant and having a great conversation . He was very down to earth and a great supervisor. I will keep his wife and family in prayer. May you Rest In Peace Sergeant Newsom



I had the honor of knowing Gary and was proud to call him a friend. His bright light and huge smile will be sorely missed. The world is smaller place without him in it. Rest In Peace Gary and shine your light down upon us.

Gary was a truly great person.
Many times I would get into long discussions with him on various topics. These talks usually ended with me going home an hour or more late. 
I didn't mind since he was such a joy to converse with.
He was also truly interested in other's lives. 
He touched many lives.

It seem like yesterday that you and mama and papa , John and Ne Ne moved in next door to my house. At the time I didn’t know that I was gaining a family that I could talk to about anything a brother that I could tell my problems to and if I needed a shoulder to cry on you were always there. In my mind I know it must be a reason that god wanted you to come home to him . And than I thought God needed a angel that had a heart of gold that he knew that could watch over all the people that you touched and loved. You were the little brother I always wanted and I was blessed to have you in my life. Rest In Peace little brother and always remember I love you to the moon and back....

Gary it was truly a pleasure working with you.  My prayer is that Jesus pours out His mercy upon you and your family and that you rest in His loving arms.  May the Newsome family know the impact Gary made on all who crossed his path.  May God comfort you Newsome Family during your mourning.

GARY, all letters in his name because he was a giant of friend, supervisor and most of all person. He was the ultimate reflection of what Jesus want us to be.
