Dr. Charles "Charlie" H. Reilly

Dr. Charles H. Reilly passed away suddenly on June 5th, 2023, at the age of 70 years old. He was born on August 22, 1952, He is survived by his wife Dr. Lori Lipkin, and was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Geraldine. Charlie grew up in Long Island, New York and attended Hicksville High School. He excelled at baseball and academics. He matriculated to Adelphi University where he played collegiate baseball and was inducted into the University's Hall of Fame in 1998 for his achievements on and off the baseball diamond. Charlie was a tremendous second baseman for the Adelphi Panthers in the early 1970s. He led the Panthers to three Knickerbocker Conference Championships, and one Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. Charlie compiled a career batting average of .391 and balled a blistering .500 average twice in league play. For his career, the Panther Hall of Famer scored 84 runs and ripped 123 hits. He was inducted into Adelphi University's Hall of Fame in 1998. Following his graduation from Adelphi University in 1974, Charlie was drafted in the fourth round as the 92nd overall pick by the Boston Red Sox. Charlie played three years of minor league baseball in the Red Sox organization with Elmira, Winston-Salem and Bristol.

Fortunately for his future patients, students, residents and colleagues, baseball did not pay the way it does his career as a Podiatric Physician and may never have been realized! Today Dr. Reilly is a 1980 graduate of the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed a three-year residency at The University of Chicago and served as Chief Resident. He pursued a career in academics and taught at the Dr. William M. Scholl College of the Podiatric Medicine from 1983-2000 and achieved the rank of Associate Professor. He won numerous best condition.

Those who knew Charlie understood his deep commitment to patient care and teaching. He participated in student and residency training throughout his 43-year career. He helped create the Illinois Masonic Residency Program and served as the residency director until 1999. He continued to serve as the Chief of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery until the time of his death. Charlie has trained nearly 200 residents and innumerable students throughout his career. His efforts to improve the health of his patients will be carried on by all of those he touched.

Charlie was the type of person who had the innate ability to be present when he was with you and would ensure that you enjoyed the beautiful journey of life with him. He would always have a glint in his eye and his infectious smile, laugh and "Hey, hey!" when he greeted you made everyone around him feel great. He loved his Chicago Cubs and you could usually find him at Wrigley Field enjoying the game he so loved. If you ever had the privilege to see a game with him, you know that the best parts of the game were in between innings when you would talk about life, laugh or try to solve the world's problems. He had a subtle way of checking in with you and making sure you were doing well.

Charlie will be lovingly remembered as a gifted surgeon, mentor, colleague, by many, many, many residents, patients, and students and most importantly a dear friend and loving husband.
