Helga Ruth Abraham Griffiths, adored mother, mother in law, aunt, friend and neighbor passed away at the age of 96. Born in 1926, Helga and her parents escaped the horrors of Nazi Germany, arriving in Rio de Janeiro after a long and circuitous journey. Mature beyond her years, Helga set aside dreams of a career in medicine and left school at 14 to enter the job market as a secretary.
Though their years together were tragically cut short, Helga married the love of her life, fellow survivor, Henry Griffiths in 1952. With the birth of beloved daughters Marion and Sylvia, their family was complete.
In 1989, Helga emigrated once again, joining her daughters in New York. Together, they were the 3 Musketeers of Woodside: All for One and One for All.
A lover of the NY Times, rich desserts (especially chocolate pudding & apple streudel), and the arts, Helga's ability to recall both the significant and the trivial in exacting detail was exceptional; family histories, names & birthdays, movie reviews, and life experiences were remembered equally.
Dear Mrs. Griffiths, you will be missed.
A graveside service for Helga will be held Friday, May 12, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Mount Zion Cemetery, 59-63 54th Avenue, Maspeth, NY 11378
