I'm packing for a move and came across a beautiful glass chess table Dan made for me which made me wonder how he's been... we had that kind of friendship... you'll lose touch, but remain close... only I found this sad new and I'm just stunned. Dan was such a vibrant person, back then no one knew just how smart he was. He was never showy or arrogant, but kind, gentle and quite a bit mischievous. He was fun to be with and a loyal friend. I'm sorry to have waited too long to reconnect. RIP my friend.

This is a picture from the time Daniel invited me to Block Island for lunch. My parents were local and able to watch us take flight. It was a moment a working middle class family was proud to witness and so they snapped a picture as proof.  I had never even dreamed of flying in a helicopter until I met Daniel, and my parents finally got to see it for themselves! Later, when we were talking at lunch, I had mentioned how I was having such a nice time, and how I’d much rather be on Block Island with him  than at my H.S. 10 year reunion. When he found out my 10 year reunion was that same day and learned that I did not want to go, he insisted we at least fly over venue for kicks. Just the thought of that blew my mind, but that was Daniel. He made me feel like I was on top of the world. Thank you for the memories and for treating me like I was special (when in fact you were the special one). 

Dear Daniel,

While I still try to muster up the right words to describe the love you illuminated, the loss I feel, and the gratitude I have from knowing you, I will share an excerpt from the last letter you wrote to me. This is a quote from the book you once gifted me, called, “The Passion” by Jeannette Winterson: 

“Travelers at least have a choice. Those who set sail know that things will not be the same as at home. Explorers are prepared. But for us, who travel along the blood vessels, who come to the cities of the interior by chance, there is no preparation. We who were fluent find life is a foreign language. Somewhere between the swamp and the mountains. Somewhere between fear and sex. Somewhere between God and the Devil passion is, and the way there is sudden and the way back is worse.”

It is with great sadness that I learned of Dan's passing. His great mind and intellect, his strive to innovate, create, and make the world a better place was inspiring. He was taken too soon and we are all the poorer for it. I wish I could have had a chance to see him in the past 6 months, but he was in too much pain. At least he does not suffer anymore.

I was so very sad to hear that Daniel had passed away.  He touched many people's lives in Little Falls and it's hard to believe he isn't here anymore.  My favorite memories of Daniel are the times we spent together "blue skying" new ideas and walking around the Overlook.  My deepest condolences to Nathalie, Tomas and to his entire family.  He will be missed.

This is my favorite picture of Daniel because  he is wearing his favorite suit, I cannot count the times  I went upstate to get this jacket -it was his lucky jacket his favorite jacket. Brilliance  has lost a little sparkle on your passing -  There will never be a Daniel Preston Again - just remarkable - simply remarkable.

A painful loss. He was a good man. He was very smart and sensitive. Condolences to everyone who loves him. RIP

The photo was taken in 2014. I remember the strange chickens and roosters in his garden. He came to Istanbul 1 month after this photo. Good to meet you and good to have memories together. 🤍

Words cannot express your loss.  Roger and I are so sorry.  He was a good man.  One of the best of Dixie.  Forever in our hearts.
