Yvette Corfdir Zander (91) passed away peacefully on April 7th at Independence Manor in Flemington NJ, with family by her side. Born October 8, 1927 in St. Quay Portrieux, France, she was the daughter of the late Sylvain and the late Regina Corfdir. She grew up in Brittany, where she spent her teen years under the German occupation. After an arm injury prevented a career as a concert pianist, Yvette became a proficient stenotypist and began teaching at the Grandjean Stenotyping School in Paris. She was subsequently offered a one year position at the United Nations in New York as a bilingual secretary, in January 1952. Yvette met and married Fred M. Zander and became a permanent resident and American citizen. She continued working at the United Nations until 1958 when she left to raise her two children. She returned to work, first for private lawyers, then obtained a job at the Lycée Français de New York as a secretary. In 1974, she returned to work at the United Nations until her retirement in 1989. She and Fred raised their children in Flushing NY, and Yvette moved to Flemington NJ in 2010.
Yvette is predeceased by her husband, the late Fred Magnus Zander. She is survived by her loving children, Louis Stephan Zander and his wife Margarita; her daughter Caroline Beidelman and her husband William. She was cherished by her grandchildren, Christopher Beidelman and his wife Monica, Laura Nissen and her husband Matthew, Leah Zander and her fiancé James Moore, Jessica Beidelman and her fiancé Derek Creadore, Sophie Zander, and Lauren Zander, as well as her four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Madison, and Gabriella Nissen, and Annabelle Beidelman. Yvette is also survived by two sisters in France, Renée Cosse and Régine Guernion, her four nephews and nieces, and many cousins. Her funeral arrangements are being entrusted to Quinn-Fogarty Funeral Home in Flushing, NY. The family will receive friends on Thursday April 25th from11:30 AM -12:30PM at Quinn-Fogarty Funeral home 192-15 Northern Blvd Flushing, NY. Memorial service will be held at 1pm at Flushing Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately after burial on Thursday April 25 at the home in which Yvette & her late husband Fred raised their children, in Flushing (159-03 45th Ave Flushing NY). There will also be a Celebration of Life held on Saturday May 18 at 1:30 PM at Independence Manor, 188 State Highway 31 in Flemington NJ.
