Steve Mantinaos DDS, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2023 in
New York City, surrounded by the love of his family. Steve was just 56 years
old when he left this world so suddenly and shockingly after a short, arduous
battle with cancer.
He was born on June15, 1966 in New Castle PA to Constantinos and Georgia Mantinaos.
He was raised in strong Greek family cultural and religious tradition, which he enjoyed and
reinforced as he developed. He was a warm, uncommonly gifted individual, wrapped in humility
and love - a really rare combination of empathy and brilliance. He touched and was touched by
many people in his life, judging from the enormous warm outpouring of love and support on
his passing. From young, he displayed the talent of an artist. This was reflected in his strikingly
beautiful drawings and paintings, much of the work inspired by the family's frequent summer trips
to Karpathos, Greece. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Pittsburgh and pursued
a career in drawing and painting. After leaving western PA, he embarked on a career as a
commercial artist, working for the famous Highlights for Children magazine, creating
educational visions for young children. Eventually, he migrated to NY City, met and
married Dianna Amisano in the early to mid 90's. He then did a remarkable about face, with a
stunning, abrupt change of careers that saw him move from being an artist to a dental professional. Through art, Steve developed a deep appreciation for science and nature and was attracted to the creative side of dentistry. He earned a Doctorate of Dental Surgery from New York University
College of Dentistry in 2000, graduating Magna CumLaude. After completing a General Practice
Residency the following year, the Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Manhattan
selected Steve for a 3 year post-doctoral program in specialty of Prosthodontics. The intensive
program afforded him the opportunity to gain knowledge and proficiency in advanced
techniques with a wide variety of dental implant systems. In July 2004 Dr. Mantinaos was awarded a Certificate in Prosthodontics. As a prosthodontist, Steve drew from a variety of materials and
techniques to render beautiful smiles, fusing his artistic, innovative and dental abilities to help
people smile well. In 2010 he started his own practice Into white Dental Arts PLLC, which
he sold just before the pandemic. He was diagnosed with a large tumor in April of2022, had surgery in May, and battled courageously, with the heart of a lion, and struggling mightily to the very end.
We will always remember and be proud of his resolution, spirit and tenacity in the face of
this darkest of enemies. Now there is peace and courage chiseled on his face for eternity.
He is survived by his mother Georgia, his brothers John, Frank and Michael, Steve's son
Roman and wife of 25 years Dianna. He was preceded in death by his father ,Constantinos
Mantinaos in 2017.We are and have been sustained by the consistent outpouring of love
and support through this journey in developing strength, acceptance and peace.
Michael Mantinaos.
