Leonard Alessi

Beloved husband of Judy. Devoted son of the late Leonard and Cecelia (Papetti) Alessi. Devoted father of Vivian Alessi, Leonora (Lee) Alessi, Leonard (Lenny) and Donna (Sbarra) Alessi, and Kevin and Michelle (Alessi) Kelly. Loving grandfather to Brendan, Grace, and Kevin. Dear brother of Dorothy Prestholm, Peter and Carol Ann (Alessi) Giampietro, Joanie Borman, and the late Leonora Alessi, Rosario Alessi, Cecelia Alessi, Joseph Paul Alessi, William Alessi, and Paul Joseph Alessi. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Minnie Switzer, and many nieces and nephews.

Not only was he a great husband, father, grandfather (Poppe), brother, and uncle, he was a great mentor to many kids in the Ravenswood Queens area. In the early 1980’s, he coached the local roller hockey team (St. Rita's Rangers), taking kids off the streets and guiding them in the right direction of life. This group of kids became his family, and he treated them like his own. Last year these kids (now men) honored him with awards and a dinner to thank him for all that he had done.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 18th from 1 pm – 3 pm and 5 pm – 8 pm at the Frederick Funeral Home located at 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11355.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 19th at 11:30 am at St. Rita’s Church, 36-25 11th Street, Long Island City, NY 11106.
