Riegle Funeral Home Sunset Chapel, 5501 West Pierson Road, Flushing MI from 5:00 pm to
8:00 pm. There will be a funeral Mass Saturday, November 20 at St John Vianney Church, 2415
Bagley St, Flint, MI starting at 11:00 am. Interment beside her husband Wolfgang Bauer at New
Calvary Cemetery in Flint Township immediately following Mass.
Elizabeth Ann (Ruth) Bauer, know as Lee to her friends and Amah to family, was born August
10,1925 in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of Milford Hon Ruth and Susan Jeroma Rolof. The
Ruth family moved to Flint, MI and lived in the Mott Park area. Lee was a long-time member of
Saint John Vianney Church, and attended Flint Northern High School. In 1943 Lee moved to
New York City to work for Capital Airlines. It was there she met Wolfgang Ernst (Woody) Bauer,
who became her husband February 7, 1948. They started married life in New York City, and
eventually relocated to the Flint area, where they raised seven children. Lee was a stay-at home mom, and later worked as a clerk at WFBE-FM, the radio voice of the Flint Board of Education.
Lee had many interests, including bridge and other card games, knitting, needle work, and
gardening. She loved to read, and had a large library, including many books on history and the
American Civil War. Later in life she travelled extensively, to Civil War battlefields, archeology
sites in the US and overseas, and many foreign countries. During the course of her travels she
visited every continent except Antartica.
Lee was preceded in death by her parents, husband Woody, and eldest daughter Catherine
Ann Kelley. She leaves many to celebrate her life, including her children: Joanne (Ike) Wamer;
Mark Bauer; Eric (Debbie) Bauer; MaryLee (Fred) Kay; Chris (Krista) Bauer, Marta (Mark) Barber,
many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lee’s family owes a debt of gratitude and thanks to her caregivers; Laura, Pam, Cathy
and Connie. The impact of their care cannot be underestimated.
