Cathy Susanne Herbert was born in Jacksonville, Florida to Charles and Connie Herbert. The family moved to the Daytona Beach area in 1963. Cathy attended Westside Elementary and graduated from Mainland High School. She loved the beach, working summers and holidays as a member of the Volusia County Beach Patrol.
Cathy graduated with a degree in elementary education from the University of Central Florida in 1979, returning to Westside to begin her first teaching job that same year. She went on to teach generations of kindergartners over her long career at Westside and Pathways Elementary Schools. A natural and gifted teacher, many of her students attribute their life-long love of learning to her.
Predeceased by her parents, Cathy is survived by her husband Jerry Dalton; daughter Meredith Williams and her husband Chuck, sons Tyler Wilburn and Kevin Wilburn; her grandchildren Blake, Brady, and Bailey Williams; and sister Cyndi Herbert McGill and her husband Mitchell.
Her family and friends will always remember her sense of humor, her gift of creating fun, and her gentle, caring ways. A celebration of her life will be held in September. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association by visiting Cathy’s tribute page at http://act.alz.org/goto/CathyDalton. Memories and expressions of sympathy may be left for Cathy’s family at DignityMemorial.com.
The family wishes to recognize the care and support provided to Cathy by Sabal Palms Memory Care in Palm Coast and Vitas Healthcare Hospice.
