Mr. Kavanagh was born January 24, 1938 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, a son of John and Catherine Grant Kavanagh.
He attended St. Malachy College in Belfast, and also Queens University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts. He played a predominant role at the University as President of the Debate Society. After graduating, he lived in London, England, then moved to Chicago, where he owned an Actuarial Software Company. In addition to being a member of the Academy of Actuaries, he was a member of the East Bank Club in Chicago.
Brian moved to Ormond Beach, Florida in 2002. He was an avid runner and loved to golf, read, enjoyed Celtic football and was always the first guy to buy you a drink at the bar.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mary Kay Keating, whom he married July 1, 1995. One sister, Kathleen (Brendan) Nolan of Oakville, Canada. Four brothers, Joseph (Pierina) Kavanagh of Essex, England; John (Christine) Kavanagh of Belfast, Northern Ireland; Davy (Marian) Kavanagh of Belfast, Northern Ireland; and James (Melissa) Kavanagh of Ormond Beach, Florida. He also was loved by his many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Michael Kavanagh.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Council On Aging of Volusia County, 420 Fentress Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32114, in memory of Bernard Kavanagh.
