Wanting to serve his country, Kurt volunteered for duty in Vietnam at the age of 17. Turning 18 in the jungles of Vietnam he saw considerable combat. He took some of the most dangerous jobs as part of a long range recon unit attached to the 82nd and 101st Airborne divisions. Despite numerous brushes with death, someone up there really liked him and returned him safely to the country that he loved. Kurt, "Charlie" dedicated many subsequent years working for the Fayette county school district, serving and watching over the many of the areas youths. Kurt derived satisfaction quietly helping people less fortunate and down and out on their luck asking only in return to keep it between them. Kurt was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing with his brothers and grandchildren, Josh and Ryan. Some of his fondest memories were made enjoying the outdoors, going early in the morning to partake in the solitude, peace and tranquility of sitting his tree stand and enjoying a hot thermos of coffee. He truly enjoyed being a native of West Virginia and all that it had to offer.
Kurt was a dedicated husband, father and grand-father. Kurt is survived by his wife, Sylvia; his daughter and son in law, Rachel and Stephen Pearl; grand-children, Josh and Ryan; and his father in law, Basil Hensley. Kurt is also survived by his brothers: Lannie, William (Bill), Hank and Roger Seay. Charlie is survived by his sisters: Sandra Seay, Althea Orrego, Ellen Vera and Tammie Seay. His is also survived by numerous sister and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by mother and father, Edith and "Stubbie" Seay; brother, Terry Seay; and mother-in-law, Janis Hensley.
His contagious laugh and zest for life and enjoying each moment will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing him! Kurt would always say to his daughter Rachel, “Endeavor to Persevere”, meaning to never give up, continue in the course of action even in the face of adversity!
