Thelma Kouzes, 100, of Fairfax, Virginia, died on August 23, 2017. She was born in Audubon, Iowa on July 26, 1917. She moved to Washington, D.C. in 1938 to work for President Roosevelt’s Administration. There she met her husband, Thomas Kouzes. Mrs. Kouzes is survived by her two sons, Jim and Dick, their spouses Tae Kyung and Jan, and three grandchildren, Nick, Emily, Ross, along with granddaughter-in-law Lisa and great grandson, Asher. Throughout her life Mrs. Kouzes remained steadfast in her commitment to justice, equality, and world peace. She and her husband hosted in their home 174 international students from 34 different countries between 1960 and 2004. She was elected the 53rd National Mother of the Year by the American Mothers organization. Mrs. Kouzes has been part of our great American story, lending her voice to the vibrancy of our nation and offering her experience and wisdom to those around her.
