Robin worked as an Instructional Technology Coordinator, helping elementary school teachers incorporate technology into their lesson plans. She was known for her ability to troubleshoot most any kind of computer problem, while also looking out for students who might need extra help or wanted to learn a little more about technology.
She was a graduate of Grand Valley State University, where she received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. She also did graduate work at the University of Virginia Curry School of Education. Robin and her husband recently moved to Falls Church after living for the previous 24 years in Manassas, where they raised their two children.
She was an avid reader, devouring books at a blistering pace. She also helped serve as an editor and proofreader for several of her author friends, and she regularly posted reviews of the books she was reading on her trusty Kindle. She had a particular fondness for trivia. She was a member of MENSA. One of her proudest accomplishments was appearing as a contestant on a 2003 episode of Jeopardy!
Robin loved to cook, which resulted in Food Network being the most-watched television channel in her household. But even more, she loved to cook for people. Her meals were a highlight of the day for those lucky enough to be at the table. When going out to eat, she preferred small brewpubs and dive bars over fancy restaurants. But if you ever asked, her favorite meal was brunch. Robin enjoyed traveling to visit family, to see baseball games and perhaps above all, to be near water. She and her husband had fond memories of their two Caribbean cruises and the adventures they shared. And she always said she was most at peace when she was on a boat at the lake beside her parents' house in Michigan. She was a baseball and football fan, especially when rooting for her favorite teams: the Detroit Tigers, Washington Nationals and Pittsburgh Steelers.
She is survived by her husband, Steve; by her son Joshua, wife Katie and granddaughters Jenna, Mariella and Colleen of Rockford, Michigan; by her daughter Kelsey and husband Kevin Cavanaugh of Wilmington, Massachusetts; by her sister Ann Marie Stanul of Jenison, Michigan; and by her parents Ralph and Barbara Logerwell of Mecosta, Michigan.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, at Centreville United Methodist Church in Centreville, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome a donation in her honor to Doorways for Women and Families in Arlington, Virginia.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.murphy-fh.com for the Gardner family.
