Richard was born to the late Walter Benard Mecke and Eleanor Quantz Mecke on November 14, 1948. Richard gave 22 years of his life to serve his country in the United States Army where he retired in 1989. He served 2 tours in Vietnam as part of his service to his country. He then joined Bull Run Officials as assistant commissioner where he worked to assigned umpires and officials. He had a love for sports he spent many years umpiring and coaching his children’s baseball and softball teams. Richard was always a hard worker and his first love was his family. He was so proud to be a dad and grandfather.
Richard is survived by his wife of 47 years, Vieann Cornell Mecke of Haymarket Virginia, a daughter Heather Lavora Mecke and Partner Bryne Shifflett of Elkton, Virginia, and a son Jason Amos Mecke and Wife Melinda of Remington, Virginia. Also survived by 4 grandchildren Nathan Amos Mecke, Lucas Daniel Mecke, Cooper Austin Mecke, and Sawyer Grace Mecke of Remington, Virginia.
He is predeceased by his father Walter Bernard Mecke and his Mother Eleanor Quantz Mecke. The family will receive friends on Monday October 7, 2024 from 4-8pm at National Funeral Home 7482 Lee Hwy., Falls Church, Virginia, and Services will be held on Tuesday October 8, 2024 at 11:00 am. Interment will be a National Memorial Park.
