Richard A Jones Sr.

Richard A. Jones, Sr, 81 of Mclean, VA Passed away on January 16, 2024 in peace with his family
after a long bout with Prostate cancer.
Richard was born on May 4th, 1942 to Edna B. Jones and Levering K. Jones in
Washington, DC. After Richard was part of the first full graduating class at Mclean High School
in 1961 where he lettered 3 years in varsity football and was an All-District performer his senior
year. He went on to join the Army where he served as an infantry trooper for 5 years before
being honorably discharged in 1967. Upon returning home to Falls Church he enrolled in
Northern Virginia Community College and received his Associates degree in Automotive
Technology. He Met Mary Virginia Poole in 1972 while working at Red Top Cab in Arlington, VA.
Richard and Mary went on to have 1 son Richard Jr while Mary had 2 kids from a previous
Marriage Melissa Cornett and Roger Cornett, and they lived happily. Richard and Mary started a
successful flower business they ran for 10 years in the Washington, DC area. In 1992 Richard
Stepped away from the flower business to focus on raising his son Richard, Jr and his hobbies
golf, coaching and baseball. Although Richard was sick for quite some time, he was truly an
inspirational person in his ability to remain positive and steadfast in his relentless pursuit of life.
Richard was Preceded by his wife Mary Poole and grandson Caleb James Beatty. He is survived
by his son Richard Jr and his wife Merybeth Caparrosa; Melissa Beatty, her Husband Bruce
Beatty and their son Bruce Jr. Roger Cornett and his wife Vanessa Cornett.
Services will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Mclean on January 27th at 1pm. In
lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made to the American Heart Association.
