Richard Joseph Almassy, 65, passed away on Friday, 24 January in Los Alamitos, California with his wife and daughter by his side.
Born in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Elmer and Isabel Almassy. He graduated from Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia where he ran track. He faithfully and honorably served his country as a Lt. Col in the U.S. Air Force. He was a pilot and flew C-135s but his favorite was the C-5. Upon retiring from the Air Force, he went to work for The Boeing Company as a Principal Engineer where he earned a Special Invention Award for his work on the Interface Pallet System. He loved to play golf and go wine tasting.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years Jill Almassy of Cypress, California; daughters Kristin Shelley Heffer of Apopka, Florida and her husband Chris, Amanda Almassy of Alexandria, Virginia; grandchildren Joey and Tommy Heffer; his brother John Almassy of Fairfax, Virginia as well as many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations to the Bucket List Project be made in his honor.
