Mary Heinrichs Garner

Mary was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to Waldo H. Heinrichs and Dorothy P. Heinrichs on December 11, 1928. Mary spent her youngest years in (pre-partition) Lahore, India, Jerusalem, and mostly in Middlebury, VT. She attended Middlebury public schools, Walnut Hill School, Wellesley College (BA’50) and the Catholic University (D.C.) MA’65. She married Naval aviator Alan Seaton Garner on December 29,1951 in Middlebury, VT.

She had a career as a clinical social worker that spanned thirty-five years in Maryland, New Hampshire, and Virginia.

She was involved in many book groups, discussion groups, bridge groups throughout her life. A passionately dedicated Unitarian Universalist, she helped the Day Alliance group at Greenspring.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband Alan, her parents, her brother Waldo H. Heinrichs Jr, her sister Shirin Bird and her husband Fred Bird.

Mary is survived by her son Michael and his wife Susan Bayer, her daughter Cynthia and her husband Larry Gregg, her sister-in-law Audrey S. Heinrichs, her grandchildren including Mindy, Patrick, Rebecca, and Aiden, and her niece and nephews and their families.

A private funeral service will be held later. Burial will follow at National Memorial Park, Falls Church. Arrangements are by National Funeral Home.
