Captain Luy Ngoc Pham was born in Nam Dinh, Vietnam to Diem Ngoc Pham and Nhai Thi Tran on March 3, 1920. He attended school in Hanoi, Vietnam and married Nhu Thi Nguyen in 1943. He graduated from Ecole de la Marine Marchande Vietnamienne.
Captain Luy Ngoc Pham is well known in Vietnamese communities around the world for having carried 3,628 refugees on the Truong Xuan freighter of the Vishipco Line to escape the communist occupation on April 30, 1975, the day Saigon fell. This was also the last trip of his marine career. He had traveled to many countries to help establish numerous Vietnamese overseas fraternities and associations.
Captain Luy Ngoc Pham is survived by his wife Nhu Thi Pham, seven children, three sisters, twenty-two grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 9 am on Saturday, December, 31, 2022 at National Funeral Home with Chua Hoa Nghiem officiating. Burial will follow at National Memorial Park. Arrangements are made by National Funeral Home.
