Julia (Julie) B., 81, died Wednesday, April 27, 2022 after a brief illness.
Born February 20, 1941 in Washington, DC, daughter of the late Richard I. Barnes, Sr. and Julia (Phalen) Barnes. She graduated from high school at St. Patrick’s Academy.
Surviving are her four children, Ronald W. (Shelly) Thomas, Newport, NC; Renee M. (Randy) Brooks, Silver Spring, MD; Marla K. (Eric Gustafson) Brunell, Clifton, VA; and Matthew R. (Katja) Thomas, Silver Spring, MD. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Richard Barnes, Jr. and his wife Nancy. She is survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She loved dancing, music and art. She loved reading books and traveling. She loved sharing her passions with her friends and family.
A visitation for Julia will be held Thursday, May 5, 2022 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at National Funeral Home at 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042. A funeral service will occur Friday, May 6, 2022 from 10:00am to 11:00am, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.
A reception will occur Friday, May 6, 2022 from 11:00am to 1:00pm, at the same address.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name be made to the Children’s Inn at NIH (https://childrensinn.org/).
