John Christian Silva, age 68, of Fairfax, Virginia died Tuesday, May 28, 2024 in Fairfax. John was a loving husband to Jennifer Silva and a devoted father to John Walter Silva, Alexandra Silva and Justin Silva.
John was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela to Foreign Service parents and lived in Lebanon, Chad, and Greece as a child. He graduated from St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C. in 1973 and proudly served in the Army. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s from American University. While in college, he spent a couple of summers in Italy visiting his parents who were stationed in Rome.
John dedicated 34 years of his life working for the State Department and retired in 2014. During his distinguished career, he served as a Program Analyst for the Directorate of Security, Chief of Fleet Management and Operations, and Logistics Division Chief, Diplomatic Telecommunications Service. During the last decade of his career, John traveled to many countries in Europe and Asia. Over the years, he was a recipient of a number of State Department awards. After retiring, he established Secure Logistics Consultants LLC, providing expert consultation to the US Government and private firms on proper handling, storage and shipment of sensitive cargo.
In his free time, John enjoyed hanging out with friends and family, spoiling his dogs, attending classic car shows and immersing in history books and documentaries. He was a member of the Elks since 2014, and volunteered at historic sites in Fairfax City.
Known for being kind, caring, and fun, John will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Gay Silva, his father, Walter John Silva and his son, John Walter Silva.
A ceremony to honor and remember John will be held on June 8, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Murphy Funeral Homes, 1102 W Broad St, Falls Church, Virginia 22046. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in John's memory.
