John Andrew Morgan, Jr., 87, of Springfield, VA, passed away on February 21, 2023 in Burke, VA
John Morgan was born in Cary, NC to Elsie Florence Farthing and John Andrew Morgan, Sr., on May 26, 1935. He married Anne Louise Desautels on June 19, 1958 in DeLand, Florida. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude, from Stetson University, 1957; Master of Arts, Duke University, 1959, and Doctor of Philosophy, Duke University, 1963.
Dr. Morgan worked as an Assistant Professor of Political
Science at George Washington University, Washington,
1964-1968; as Associate Professor Political Science, 1968-1974; then from 1974 to his retirement as Professor and Professor Emeritus of Political Science and Public Affairs. He served several years as Chairman of the Faculty Senate.
Prior to his long tenure at George Washington University, Dr. Morgan served as a Social Science analyst on the United States Commission on Civil
Rights, Washington, 1959; Instructor of political science at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, Lafayette, 1960-1962, and at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, 1962-1964, where he was also a research associate, summers 1963-1964, visiting research associate, summer 1965. While at George Washington University, he served as a Consultant in the Special Action Office for Drug Abuse Prevention, Washington, 1973-1975, the National Institute of Mental Health, Bethesda, Maryland, 1971-1973, and the Cabinet Committee on Education, Washington, 1970.
John Andrew Morgan, Jr., received the Woodrow Wilson fellow, 1957-1958; Southern Fellowships Fund fellow, 1957-1960; recipient Citation for Distinguished Service George Washington University Faculty Senate, 1978, 84.
John Andrew Morgan, Jr. is preceded in death by his wife of almost 52 years, Anne Louise Desautels Morgan, and his parents Elsie Florence Farthing Morgan and John Andrew Morgan, Sr.
John Andrew Morgan, Jr., is survived by his three children: Sarah Catherine Morgan Ottomanelli and husband Michael Anthony Ottomanelli, John Andrew Morgan, III, Vicki Anne Morgan Williams and husband Donald Lee Williams; Three siblings: James W. Morgan and wife Carol, Mary Margaret Morgan, Elizabeth Anne Morgan Goforth; Six grandchildren: Olivia Natelle Ottomanelli, Kayli Nicole Ottomanelli, Lidia Anne Morgan Wrenfro and husband Christopher Wrenfro, John Andrew Morgan, IV, Margaret Anne Williams and husband Jesse Michael Williams, Mason Hayes Williams and wife Hyewon Choi Williams, and five great-grandchildren: Amari Melo Wrenfro, Melody Amara Wrenfro, Ayden Neville Zapata, Aselin Isabella Mae Williams, and Sterling Michael Lee Williams.
