July 21, 1932 - April 29, 2022
Evelyn Ruth Dunne, 89, of Ashburn, Virginia passed away peacefully on Friday, April 29th at Ashby Pond's Senior Living. Born in Yonkers, New York, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Ruth (Asher) Lonske and the late Richard Lonske.
She was a long-term resident of Yonkers, New York and worked as an office manager for a plastic surgeon for 25 years before retiring to Venice, Florida to be near her two sisters and brother.
Evelyn was pre-deceased by her husband Robert J. Dunne, Sr., and eldest son Christopher; as well as by her five siblings; Richard Lonske, Patricia Lonske, Virginia (Lonske) Peterson, Ronald Lonske, and Quinten Lonske.
She is survived by her twin son and daughter; Robert J. Dunne Jr. and his wife Eileen of Oak Hill, Virginia; and Robin (Dunne) Belliveau and her husband Michael Belliveau. of Austin, Texas; her six beloved grandchildren; Jason, Robert III, and Ryan Dunne and his wife Catherine; Kara (Belliveau) Martin and her husband Cliff, Kelly and Michael.; and her six great grandchildren; Caleb, Jackson, Maverick, Everett, Elora, and Sadhbh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was born in Yonkers but spent several years as a young girl living on her uncle’s family farm in Brookneal, Virginia. After returning to New York, it was love at first sight when she met a handsome, newly immigrated Irishman. Ev and Pops (well known for his corny jokes) were happily married for 52 years. She was deeply committed to her family, devoting much of her life to caring for her eldest son Chris, who suffered from mental illness. She also supported her daughter Robin with the challenges of childhood Type 1 diabetes. No matter the sacrifice, to her it was simply being a mom. Influenced by both her Virginia and New York roots, Evy was renowned for her cooking at family gatherings, whether serving her Southern fried chicken or beef tenderloin with Yorkshire pudding. Evy and her sister Patsie (who were inseparable!) were well known for their shopping prowess, often buying the same outfits but in different colors.
Memorial services will be held at the National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Virginia on Friday, June 17. Visiting hours are 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a Memorial Service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.
