She was born in 1932 in Toronto, Canada and became a US Citizen at age 21. A longtime resident of Falls Church, she graduated from Falls Church High School and Madison College (James Madison University) in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She began her career at the National Education Association as an Administrative Assistant and progressed up to Management in the Governance and Policy Department in the Executive Office working with the State Education Presidents & Executive Directors. She retired in 1988 after 34 years and then served as the President of the National Education Association Retirees Organization.
In her retirement, she dedicated her time to various organizations in her community. She served as Chairman of the Falls Church Democratic Committee for over 10 years. She was the First Chair of the Falls Church Tricentennial Committee and was a member of the Advisory Committee for the Falls Church Memorial Day Parades. Edna received the prestigious “Pillar of the Community” award, given by the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce. She also was the recipient of the Mattie Gundry Award given for furthering the standing of women in the community. She also was awarded the Marian Driver Award by the Falls Church City Democratic Committee.
Edna was a member of the Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington, Virginia where she served on the Congregation Council, Chair of Morning Circle, and an Assistant Financial Secretary.
Edna had great love for her Church Community, the City of Falls Church and her friends at the Goodwin House. She enjoyed spending time with her “family,” Scott & Rachel Clark and their children Nicole, Holly & Bradley Clark of Centreville, Virginia.
Visitation will be held at Murphy Funeral Home in Falls Church, Virginia from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday December 2, 2022. Interment will take place at National Memorial Park in Falls Church at 2:00 pm.
