Edgar Price Roberts, 91, a resident of the Presbyterian Village in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, passed away Sunday.
Edgar was born in Ridgeway, Virginia, the son of the late Sanford Madison Roberts and Mary Ethel Thomas Roberts. He married Ann Stephens, who preceded him in death in 1996, after 46 years of marriage.
Surviving are two sons: Stephen Thomas Roberts of Alexandria, Va., and Stuart James Roberts (Eileen) of Hollidaysburg; a daughter, Nancy Lee Roberts of Alexandria, Va.; and four grandchildren: Luke John, Mckenzie Anne, Rachael Margaret, and James Edgar Roberts.
Price was one of eleven children and is survived by six of his siblings: Henrietta Keever, Cornelia Steele, Lowell Roberts, Kay Scougal, Carol Ann Roberts and Johnsie Oddenino.
Price served in the U.S. Army during the Second World War from May 1943 until January 1946. During that time he served in Australia, New Guinea, The Philippines and was part of the occupying forces in Japan. Among other duties he was part of the team that aerially photographed and documented the damage caused by the two atomic bombs.
Price began his education in a one room school house and graduated from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. He then worked as a Management Auditor for the United States Department of Commerce. His last position there was in the Science and Technology Division of the Inspector General.
Price had a number of hobbies and interests. In his youth he found, and collected American-Indian artifacts. He was also interested in photography. He researched his family’s history, and together with his siblings, co-authored a book on this history. Price also lived in the Panama Canal Zone, which was of interest to him throughout his life. He was an avid reader of history and philosophy.
