IN THE CARE OF
Murphy Funeral Homes
Carmen F. (Lafoe) Delahanty, age 94, died Sunday evening August 14, 2022, at Fairfax Hospital with her
loving sister and nephew at her side. She was a long time resident at Regency at McLean and lived life to the fullest.
Being one of six children of the late Alfred E. and Roberta (Malcolm) Lafoe, Carmen was known by many as “Frannie” and born in Newburyport, MA on July 17, 1928 moving to Washington D.C. in 1946 shortly after graduating from Newburyport High School. Carmen met and married Lt. Col. John F. Delahanty, who served in the Army and worked at the Pentagon until his death in 1973. Carmen was a bookkeeper at Arthur Alder Fine Men’s Clothing until she retired.
In her spare time, Carmen loved entertaining, shopping, music, dancing, and attending any social event she could. Most of all she was a very talented artist, especially with watercolors. Carmen lived life with style being the definition of “classy”, always dressed to impress, and her laugh filled the room.
She leaves behind her sister, Helen Townley who has resided with her for the past five years, along with several generations of nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, Robert Lafoe, Alfred Lafoe Jr., Thelma DesRoches, and Elizabeth Little.
Visiting hours at the Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 West Broad Street, Falls Church, Virginia, will be Monday, August 29, 2022 from 2 to 4p.m.
