Andrew (Andy) R. Payne, 84, of Amissville, passed away peacefully May 10, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. Andy was preceded in death by his parents Wilson Payne, W. Kathleen Hodgson and F. Barton Hodgson. Sisters Pauline Payne, Judy Markley, Marge Roth, Maxine Ringle and Brothers Ambrose Payne and Ackley Payne and great granddaughter Alyssa Lia Nicole Minnick.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Judy, sister Aurena Gillespie and brother Mike Hodgson. Four children: Mark W. Richardson (Sherri) of Montross, Va, H. Leroy Richardson (Brenda) of Stephens City, Va, Lori Duncan (Warren) of Moss Point, MS, Theo Richardson (Heather) of Unionville, Va, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Andy grew up in Annandale, worked briefly for Brothers Furniture before being drafted into the United States Army and serving as a sharpshooter from 1961-1963 in Germany. When Andy returned he made a living as a carpenter and later a construction foreman for Glen’s Contracting. He completed all the carpentry work on his home in Amissville when building it in 1987.
Andy enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, caring for his plants and yard, and tinkering on his 1968 Pontiac Bonneville convertible.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation for Andrew will be held Sunday, May 14, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042. A funeral service will occur Sunday, May 14, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042. A graveside service will occur Sunday, May 14, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.
