Shirley M. Cates, age 85, of Somerset, formerly of Tiverton, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 8, 2017 in St. Luke’s Hospital. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Dallas and Elizabeth (Worsley) Cates, she was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1950.
She owned and operated Stonebridge Variety and New Boston Road Drug. She had worked at Cornell Leather, Ferreira Transportation and General Cleaning all in Fall River.A communicant of St. Christopher’s Church, in Tiverton, Shirley enjoyed watching movies.
She is survived by three nephews, Paul Simister, Barry Simister and Donald Cates all of Fall River and many great-nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Helen Simister and Dallas Cates, Jr and was the aunt of the late Brian Cates.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 11:00AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River, MA 02720. Visitation prior to her service from 10:00 to 11:00AM. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
