Born in Fall River, the son of the late Andrew and Dorothy (Southworth) Murray, Bob was a lifelong resident of Fall River and a graduate of BMC Durfee High School, class of 1945. After graduating high school, Mr. Murray went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from Brown University in 1951 and later earned his Master’s Degree from Bridgewater State College.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Murray’s long career in the Healthcare Industry included Chief Operating Officer of Cape Cod Hospital and Charlton Memorial Hospital, Under Secretary to Health & Human Services in Boston and President of the former Truesdale Hospital. He was also the Vice President of the Durfee Trust, former President of the Chamber of Commerce and began his career as a Science Teacher at Henry Lord Junior High School in Fall River.
Bob was the former President of the Fall River Boys & Girls Club, former President of the Fall River Country Club and a member of the Lions Club. Early in his career, Mr. Murray was the basketball coach at Henry Lord and coached baseball at North Park and Columbus Park in Fall River.
Mr. Murray is survived by his three children Paula Baillie and her husband Harold of Waverly, PA, Robert A. Murray and his wife Marilyn of Westport and Alyson Mandel and her longtime companion Peter Lash of Warren, RI; ten grandchildren Andrea Cordeiro, Andrew Murray, Alec Murray, Nicole Mandel, Jeffery Mandel, Robert Watterud, Lauren Baillie, Lindsey Baillie, Hal Baillie and Kathleen Baillie; four great grandchildren Isabella Dente, Freya Mandel, Joseph Dippre and Graeme Baillie.
He was the father of the late Carolyn Murray and brother of the late Marjorie Newman.
His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at 10:00 AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by his Burial with Military Honors in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 7PM in the funeral home.
