Born in Fall River, the daughter of Julia (McGowan) Ryan of Fall River and the late Francis H. Ryan, she was a lifelong resident of the city. Maureen was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School, class of 1972, received her Associates Degree from Bristol Community College in 1974 and later earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Roger Williams University in Accounting and Finance.
Maureen was the former Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools in the City of Fall River for 40 years until her retirement a few years ago. She was an avid New England sports fan, enjoying the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and the Providence College Basketball.
In addition to her husband and mother, Maureen is survived by three step-children, David Cote, Melissa Maywalt and her husband Stephen and Jennifer Shapiro and her husband William; a brother John Ryan and his wife Lorna of Englewood, FL; a sister Theresa Ryan of Fall River; two nieces Kerry Girard and Megan Luongo; two nephews Michael and Timothy Ryan; five grandchildren and several great nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Francis H. Ryan Jr.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 9am from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by her Funeral Mass at 10am in Holy Name Church 709 Hanover St., Fall River.
