Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late William and Louise A. (Pypniowski) Waskiel, she had been a longtime resident of the city.
Betty attended St. Mary’s High School in Providence, Rhode Island and in addition to being a homemaker; she worked as a server in the cafeteria for the Fall River School Department. She also worked as a stitcher in the garment industry at Shelburn and Stella Ann for many years.
An active communicant of the former Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, she was the secretary of the women’s club, CYO advisor, choir member, folk group member, bingo coordinator and lector. After their closure, she was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Somerset and was a member of their folk choir and rosary club.
She is survived by five children, Julianne Gaspar of Westport, Edward Ayers of Somerset, Michael Ayers and his wife Becky of Swansea, David Ayers and his wife Dorene of Swansea, Mark Ayers and his wife Lilly of Westport; two siblings, Janice Ciosek of Westport and James Waskiel of New Bedford; ten grandchildren Alycia Clark, Barry Gaspar, Jacob, Liam, Autumn, Holly, Emily, Tyler, Aaron and Aiden Ayers; four great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late George Ayers, Jr. and sister of the late William, John, Stanley, and Joseph Waskiel.
Her Funeral will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 8:30AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Patrick’s Church, 306 South St., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Burial St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
