John J. Burke, age 90, of Fall River, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 in Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Eunice (Simcock) Burke to whom he has been married for the past 58 years.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Thomas and Nellie (Mara) Burke, he was a lifelong resident of the city.
A graduate of BMC Durfee High School class of 1940, he received his Massachusetts Electrical Journeyman license from the former SMTI now UMass Dartmouth. A decorated Veteran of the United States Air Force, he served as Corporal during World War II.
In addition to being a licensed journeyman electrician, he worked at the former F.R.E.L.C.O., the Fall River Electric Light Company now National Grid for 45 years before retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the Over the Hill Gang and the AM Vets. He was a Boy Scout leader, teaching the scouts about electricity and awarded the electrical merit badges. Hardworking and dedicated, John truly enjoyed being an electrician.
Surviving in addition to his wife he is survived by three sons; Thomas E. Burke of Fall River, Jack Burke and his wife Dawn of Swansea, and James P. Burke of Fall River and his girlfriend Leanne Noonan, two grandchildren; Matthew and Holly Burke of Swansea, and many nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Mary Burke and Helen Piper.
His Funeral will be held Friday, February 1, 2013 at 10:00AM in Sacred Heart Church, Linden St., Fall River. Visiting hours Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00PM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter St., Fall River. Burial private.
