Helen L. Piper

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Thomas and Nellie (Mara) Burke, she was a lifelong resident of the city.

She was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1937 and the Thibodeau Business School. She was office secretary at Berkshire Hathaway for fifteen years, at Ashworth Brothers for ten years and retired from a bookkeeping position at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School after 12 years.

She was a lifetime member of the Sacred Heart Church, where she was a Eucharistic minister and was the recipient of the Marian Medal. A charter member of the Scared Heart Women’s Guild of which she served as President and a member of the Sacred Heart Seniors Club, and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Mrs. Piper served on the B.M.C. Durfee Alumni Board for many years and was a member of the 1037 Club at Durfee. She was appointed to the Fall River Council on Aging Board of Directors in 2001. She founded the Rose E. Sullivan Scholarship in 1975.

She is survived by one brother; John Burke and his wife Eunice of Fall River and three nephews, one great niece and one great nephew.

Her Funeral will be held Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 9:00AM in Sacred Heart Church, Linden St., Fall River. Visiting hours Friday from 4:00 to 7:00PM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter St., Fall River.
