Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late John Leo and Loretta (Smith) Sullivan, she was a lifelong resident of the city.
A graduate of Sacred Hearts Academy, Class of 1947, she graduated Valedictorian with a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Stonehill College, earned a master’s degree in English from Brown University in 1966 and a Doctorate in Religious Studies from the Theological Foundation while in her 70s! Betty was an English Teacher at B.M.C. Durfee High School for over 30 years before retiring and teaching English part time at Bristol Community College.
In addition to Betty’s academic and teaching achievements, Betty enjoyed traveling, cooking, knitting, reading, and spending time with her many friends and family, especially her two granddaughters. Everybody loved Betty and she had a positive impact on many people throughout the course of her life.
She will be forever missed by her two children, Elizabeth S. Marion and her husband John L. Marion of West Simsbury, CT and Patrick M. Sullivan of Newport, RI and her two granddaughters, Jessica and Stacey Marion. She was the sister-in-law of the late Rev. Walter A. Sullivan.
Her funeral and burial are private.
Arrangements are under the care of Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, Fall River.
