Elizabeth A. Mercer

Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late William and Catherine (Ward) Barlow, she was a 1950 graduate of the former Dominican Academy in Fall River and attended Bridgewater State and Rhode Island College.

An avid bowler and golfer, Mrs. Mercer was a the national Age Group Duck Pin Champion, member of the Acoaxet Club, the New Bedford Country Club and several country clubs in Florida. She was the President of the Women’s Auxiliary at Charlton Memorial Hospital, member of the Elephant Rock Beach Club, Westport Yacht Club and a member of the Mother of Twins Club.

Mrs. Mercer is survived by her four sons: John J. “Jay” Mercer and his wife Nancy of Fall River, James P. Mercer and his wife Jennifer of West Palm Beach, FL, Jeffrey Mercer of Fall River and J. Timothy Mercer and his wife Dawn of Fall River; seven grandchildren Samantha, Zachary, Mackenzie, Maxwell, London, Chase and Cooper Mercer and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Kathleen Therrien, John Barlow and William Barlow.

Mrs. Mercer’s family would like to thank the Staff at Sarah Brayton for the compassionate care they have shown Betty over these past few months.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 8:30AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by her funeral mass at 10AM in St. John the Baptist Church 945 Main Rd., Westport.
