Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Roland and Blanche (Desrosiers) Priest, she was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mrs. Mello attended BMC Durfee High School and worked as a seamstress in local textile mills. She was also a dietary aide at the Cardinal Medeiros Residence.
Edith loved reading, shopping and sewing, often making her own clothes. She was very active and enjoyed taking long walks around the city.
She is survived by her children, Cheryl Whalley and husband Bob of Pennsylvania, Paula Potts and husband Goeff of Orlando, Florida, Wayne Mello and wife Lynn of New Hampshire, Gayle Bernardo of Fall River, Kathy Carreiro and husband Louis of Westport, Keith Mello and wife Maria of Fall River, Nancy Cormier and husband John of Swansea, Eric Mello and wife Cindy of Fall River and Todd J. Mello of Somerset; her sister, Irene Mello of Tiverton; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Priscilla Davis, Blanche Ayash, Roland Priest, Jim Priest and Doris Lileyard.
Arrangements are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River.
