Alejandra B. Garcia (Hana), age 91, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was called home by our Lord on Thursday November 4, 2010 at a Corpus Christi Hospital surrounded by her family that loved her and will truly miss her. She was born July 06, 1919 to Pedro and Doratea Abrego Benavides in the town of Encino, TX. Alejandra was preceded in death by parents, husband Alberto Medina Garcia, a son Albert (Sara) Garcia Jr., a daughter Anita (Mike) Salinas, seven brothers Ramon, Esraine, Santiago, Domingo, Bonifacio, Maximo, and Simon Benavides, six sisters Clara Huerta, Rosario Benavides, Apolonia Garcia, Andrea Benavides Praxedes Hernandez, and Carmen Benavides, her grandparents Simon and Ramona Pena Benavides, Basilio and Rosario Altamira Abrego.
Alejandra was a cattle rancher and during WWII was responsible for maintaining a dairy farm. She also received a certificate as a LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) and would visit and nurse the ill in the surrounding area. Alejandra retired from the Encino school cafeteria after thirty years of service. She was generous and loved children. Hana was considered a second mother by many. Alejandra was a devoted member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church where her Father and herself donated the land. She contributed endless hours raising funds for the building of the church.
She is survived by her daughters Maria (Dario) N. Puig and Gloria H. (Pedro) Cantu Mendoza both of Corpus Christi, TX. Eighteen grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren and a special person in her life Samantha (Chica) N. Croft.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday November 7, 2010 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday November 8, 2010 at the St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Encino, TX. Viewing prior to funeral at 9:00a.m.. Interment will follow at the Benavides Cemetery on Las Cuatas Rd Encino, TX.
Pallbearers will be Albert and Jiame Garcia, Michael,Richard,Ricky and Frankie Salinas Jr., Albert, Eric and Carlo Lopez, John Huerta and Gilbert Benavides.
