Your Dad was a very kind and noble soul. He loves life, friends, and his family. He will sorely be missed by all of us. Our thoughts and prayers will always be with you and your family.

After graduating from the Far Eastern University Institute of Medicine, many of our classmates worked briefly at the local hospitals and medical clinics in Manila before coming to the United States for our postgraduate medical training.

I remembered one afternoon after I got off work from Alice Lee Memorial Clinic in Magdalena Street in Manila, I saw George walking towards me.  When he saw me, we briefly stopped and chatted for a while.  After telling him about my work, he then told me that he was working at the Metropolitan Hospital, which was also on Magdalena Street.  He talked about his experience driving the ambulance picking up patients in different parts of Manila.  The moment he started talking about it, his face glowed as he described the rush of adrenaline the moment he turned on the ignition of the ambulance.  He talked about the thrill of criss-crossing the narrow streets of Manila, which were constantly congested to a slow crawl.  During the rainy season, the streets were mostly flooded and difficult to traverse.  No one followed traffic rules and not only did he have to maneuver the ambulance to avoid crashing into cars, but he also had to avoid buses, jeepneys, tricycles, and even horse-drawn carts.  He ended the conversation telling me, “It was the thrill of a lifetime.”

My first home in this country was with Uncle George and Aunt Siu Lee.  I had never met him before, but he readily welcomed me as though I was a long-time family member.  He was very generous with his time and went out of his way to take me along on vacations with his family.  I quickly grew very fond of Uncle George and happily realized that Aunt Siu Lee had indeed found herself a wonderful man.

When I was seeing my hubby-to-be, he took it upon himself to get to know him as he was very concerned about my well-being.  His insight was very prescient and I will always be thankful for his caring ways.  I was thrilled when he accepted our request to be the principal sponsor at our wedding and will always cherish the important role he played in our future life.  As with me, Danny also took an immediate liking to Uncle George and they hit if off right away (during Uncle George's pre-approval chat).

Everybody who knew Uncle George will greatly miss him, as we do now.  Even to this day, it still is hard to accept that he is no longer with us. Thank you Uncle George, your endearing ways and your generosity knew no bounds.  We will always be grateful.  And may the GOOD LORD give strength and comfort to our beloved Aunt Siu Lee.

No words can describe my gratitude to Uncle George for giving us a shot at the American Dream.  He was a man of great generosity who was humble and never spoke of his many accomplishments.  Only in death did I learn of the many other lives he touched and improved.  He will be sorely missed.

George and I were in medical school in 1961.  We were the only 2 Chinese interns sent to rural provinces of Capiz and Iloilo.  While we were there, George adapted very well but I was ready to come home after 1 month. The food was sooo bad that I had to call my mom to send "Masong".   George was laughing at me for being so spoiled.  After 8 months together, we developed such a special relationship.  George had a dry sense of humor. He was not a man of many words but whatever he said always came from the heart.  George, may you have all the movies you like to watch and all the midnight snacks you like to eat in Heaven !!!

    Chenoa, Illinois.  September  1984.  Nineteen under one roof.  Uncle George supported us all while we tried to build a life in the United States.  Never once did I hear him complain.  
    I always recount to my two children Uncle George's immeasurable generosity and kindness.  We will truly and deeply miss him.

Uncle George fulfilled his American dream with courage and tenacity, building a professional career in a country far from his place of birth.  In this country, he made lifelong friends and improved the lives of his patients.  He also helped create an opportunity for the members of the Ong and Delumen families to fulfill their dreams in the United States.  We are eternally grateful for his love, kindness and generosity.  

The true measure of Uncle George's success, however, is his wonderful family: Aunt Siu Lee, Austin, George, Julie, Berdie, Eric, Kim, and his five grandchildren.  Uncle George's love for and devotion to Aunt Siu Lee and his family are evident in the many family photos that fill his home.  

We miss Uncle George but find comfort in our memories of our time with him and his family.
