Mr. Fietsam proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1955, with a Bachelor of Science- Accounting. He was owner of R.C. Fietsam, CPA (1959-68); continuing his practice of accounting in Belleville as managing partner of R.C. Fietsam & Co., CPAs (1969-2009).
He was a member of the Belleville Chamber of Commerce (President 1973), Illinois CPA Society (President 1988), Belleville Optimist Club (President 1979), Belleville Jaycees, the United Way of Greater St. Louis, St. Clair Country Club, St. Paul United Church of Christ, Masterworks Chorale, U of I Alumni Association, Bell-Scott Committee and the Belleville Toastmasters. He received Optimist of the Year 1977 & 1980, Illinois CPA Society-Public Service Award (1982), and in 2006 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Service from the Belleville Area Chamber of Commerce. He was recognized by Schwinn Fitness and the Nautilus Inspiration Award (2004) for logging more than 100,000 miles on a stationary exercise bicycle. Mr. Fietsam dedicated his life to Belleville Community and to his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather; who will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Celsus J. and Viola, nee Ehret, Fietsam.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 60 years, Miriam Fietsam, nee Runkwitz; his children, Robert C. Fietsam, Jr., Guy (Gail) Fietsam, Nancy Burton, and Lisa (Ken) Moore; his four grandchildren, Khara, Krystal, Grace, and Christopher; brothers, Richard (Ramona), Ronald (Shirley), Dave (Pat), and Dale (Martha) Fietsam; a sister, Ethel (Dave) Longworth; a sister-in-law, Kathryn (Lee) Athmer; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral: Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the funeral home with Rev. Larry Patton officiating. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Illinois.
