Fairhaven mourns the loss of Robert V. Bach, 88, who passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at St. Anne's Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (LeBlanc) Bach, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, Robert was the son of the late Herbert and Margaret (McClurg) Bach. Throughout his life, he remained a devoted resident of the area and was a faithful communicant of St. Joseph's of Fairhaven.
Robert served in the United States Navy during the Korean War where he achieved the rank of Boilerman Petty Officer 2nd Class. After his military service, he pursued a career as a steam engineer at Brayton Point Power Station for more than 35 years.
Robert was an energetic and passionate man who inspired others with his active lifestyle. He excelled in high school football and continued on to play semi-professional football with the Murphy Club. He served as a baseball umpire and football referee for many years, officiating until the remarkable age of 80. Robert also found joy in running marathons and was an enthusiastic member of Healthtrax Fitness and Wellness Center.
In addition to his loving wife, Robert leaves behind his children, Robert Bach and his wife Karen Bach (Rousseau) of Dartmouth, and Donna Lamontagne (Bach) and her partner Tim Rapoza of North Dighton. He was a devoted grandfather to six grandchildren, Matthew Bach and his wife Stephanie, Christopher Bach and his wife Monica, Jonathan Bach, Rachel Lamontagne, Nicholas Bach and Kyle Lamontagne as well as four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews bringing happiness and love to multiple generations. He was preceded in death by his half siblings, Lillian Pickup, Florence Sadowski, Violet Walker, and Norman Bach.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday August 11, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's of Fairhaven, located at 74 Spring Street, Fairhaven, MA 02719, where friends and family will gather to pay their final respects. A receiving line will allow guests to express condolences and exchange sentiments starting at 9:30 A.M. Following the service, Robert will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery with Military Honors.
