Our beloved mother, Floretta June Lopez, passed away on May 24, 2024 just shy of her 90th birthday. She grew up in New Bedford, Massachusetts, lived in Huntersville, NC for many years in retirement and spent a short time in Redondo Beach, California where she passed away peacefully.
In addition to her children, Floretta just adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and beloved first born son. She also leaves behind siblings, nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Our mom, a retired librarian; was kind, loving, generous, courageous, and unexpectedly funny. She was an avid reader, a fierce board game player, and loved to learn new things; one of the most recent was boxing that supported the Parkinson's Disease she lived with... so inspiring to witness.
Her soft nature hid enormous strength, will and a determination that moved her to overcome great adversity and trauma. If you didn’t have reason to know, you wouldn’t know as she was humble and not one to talk about the difficulties or triumphs of her life. She was known by her warmth (once she got past her shy nature), a big heart and a smile that lit up a room.
Our mom was our hero!
Throughout her life, she touched many hearts, as she dedicated her time and resources to many charitable causes. It mattered so much to her!
In her memory, and in lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to the wonderful works of:
