Born in Acushnet, the son of the late Delmo and Leona (Fondry) Iacoponi, he was raised in Fairhaven, lived in New Bedford for 40 years then returned to Fairhaven 3 years ago.
David worked for the City of New Bedford for 37 years, retiring as Foreman of the Facilities Management Elm St. Garage. Following retirement 13 years ago, he held several part time jobs including an armored guard for Brinks Armored Truck.
David loved being at his homestead in Fairhaven which he referred to as “the farm”. A master craftsman and repairman, he was a self- taught, hands-on type of guy who could fix almost anything. Being tough as nails and active as a man half his age, he was often seen chopping wood, fishing, boating, quahogging and riding his quad and Bobcat. He and his children summered at their cottage on Sconticut Neck Road. He was a collector of antiques, enjoyed watching the FOX Channel and was a proud member of the NRA.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Dean Iacoponi of Fairhaven; Lynne Raad and her husband Tom Raad of Westport and Erin Iacoponi of New Bedford; his sisters, Arlene Bertoldo and husband Kenneth of Fairhaven and Adrienne Millhouse of Dartmouth; his grandchildren, Brittany Iacoponi of New Bedford and Nicholas and Alyssa Raad both of Westport; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Brett Iacoponi.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 9am in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven. Visiting hours will be held Friday 4-8pm. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford. For online tributes and directions please visit: www.waring-sullivan.com
