Susan Keith Simko, formerly of Charlottesville, passed away on May 18, 2024 surrounded by family at the home of her sister in Annandale, VA. She was born and raised in Fredericksburg, VA, the daughter of Fontaine and J. Lee Cooke. Susie was preceded in death by her brother Philip Cooke. She is survived by her brother Lee Cooke (Laurie) and sister Sally Hanlein (Ray).
She was proud of her many years working for OMB and several other government agencies. Susie and her husband John traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, and South America. After retirement, they enjoyed living in Costa Rica for 19 years before Susie returned to Virginia.
Susie was gregarious and maintained strong friendships throughout her life. She was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal church while living in Orange, VA. Her favorite pastimes were card games, Mah Jong, cooking, and reading (especially Stephen King). Among her favorite charities were the Rosebud Indian Reservation in SD and agencies supporting animal welfare.
Susie's generosity, warm smile, contagious laughter, and friendship will be missed by all who loved her.
A Service in Thanksgiving for her life will be held at 11:00 on June 13th at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 6800 Columbia Pike, Annandale, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National MS Society or the ASPCA.
