Robert Alan Joyce, aged 70, passed away peacefully at Georgetown University Hospital, surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 9, 2023. He was born on June 8, 1952 in Arlington, Virginia, to Nina Hazen and Leslie Webb Joyce. Bob lived in Arlington in his early years, then spent part of his childhood on a small farm in Pennsylvania with his grandparents. He graduated from Falls Church High School in 1971, and attended James Madison University for a degree in music. He was an avid jazz musician in his younger years, and played several instruments, including trombone and piano.
Bob met the love of his life, Cindy, on a blind date, where they bonded over their shared love of music and books. They went on to marry and had 38 wonderful years together along with three children. He loved learning and went back to school to complete a BS in Business Administration and a Masters in Telecommunications from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. His high academic standing at GMU earned him memberships in several national honor societies. He continued to have a distinguished 35+ year career in International Telecommunications, servicing clients and making lifelong friends around the globe.
Bob was passionate about live music as well as basketball, running, and hiking. He was an avid competitor at all levels, whether on the court or at the game table. He loved spending time in New Hampshire with his family, hiking every summer and skiing every winter. His lifetime love of learning extended to his personal life, where he could often be found reading a good book with a cat on his lap. He loved hosting family and friends, especially around the holidays, and had an unmatched sweet tooth. He was a strong supporter of individual rights and taking care of the planet.
Bob is survived by mother Nina Simons, brothers Leslie and James Joyce, sisters Rebecca Alexander and Dory Todd, wife Cynthia Bragg Joyce, his three children, Kevin, Colleen and Erin, and his grandson Leeland Joyce.
